POSSUM

We are thrilled to be able to offer possum as a food for the cats and dogs of New Zealand. How amazing to be able to eliminate introduced pests from the New Zealand countryside and save our native flora and native birds, without the use of pesticides.

Possum meat is quite dark in colour, extremely nutritious, with an amazing essential fatty acid profile, high protein level and packed full of vitamins and minerals. All of this is because the possums eat only the finest food, an abundance of fresh shoots, berries, leaves and grasses.

Dogs and cats seem to prefer possum meat to most other meats. And as a unique source of protein it can be very useful in the diet of dogs and cats diagnosed with food allergies.

By creating a commercial value to the bush-tailed possum, the hunters in the field can be rewarded financially for the hard work they do.

Our Raw Essentials possum meat is produced by a company called “Wildenz Ltd” based in Whakatane, and is fully traceable, from field, to point of sale, with an NZFSA risk management programme in place.
