How to Store & Thaw Raw Dog Food Rolls

Step 1 - Choose the right roll for your dog

Select a roll suited to your dog’s size, life stage, and activity level.

If you’re unsure, our nutrition specialists are here to help tailor a feeding plan for optimal health.

Curious about what’s best? Ask us - we love talking about pets and would be happy to put together a personalised feeding plan for your pet featuring our popular range of frozen raw rolls.

Step 2 - Store raw rolls safely

Just like handling any raw meat — whether pet food or meat for human consumption — it’s important to follow common-sense storage and hygiene practices to keep both you and your pet safe.

Store in the freezer until ready to use.

Freezing helps:

  • preserve freshness and nutrients

  • maintain product integrity

  • ensure safe thawing and feeding

Portioning tips

Frozen rolls can be firm to cut. For easier portioning into smaller quantities:

✔ Lightly thaw in the fridge until just soft enough to slice
✔ Portion while still firm
✔ Return unused portions promptly to the freezer
✔ Avoid fully thawing and refreezing.

Step 3 - Thaw the right way

For best quality and safety, thaw portions of raw food rolls as needed.

To thaw:

  1. Place the portion in a sealed container in the fridge overnight
    OR

  2. Submerge a sealed bag in warm water (do not microwave)

✔ Ensure packaging is intact before submerging
✔ Feed all natural juices — they contain valuable nutrients

Fresh is best. Food thawed in the fridge may be used for up to 3 days.

Step 4 - Feed fresh & discard leftovers

Serve the thawed portion and remove any uneaten food after the meal.

If food is regularly left behind, you may be feeding too much — we’re happy to help adjust portions.

Step 5 - Safe handling & hygiene

Good hygiene protects your household and your pet.

After handling raw food:
✔ wash hands thoroughly
✔ clean surfaces, utensils, and bowls with anti-bacterial cleaner
✔ keep pets off food preparation surfaces

Step 6 - Everyday hygiene around pets

Healthy hygiene habits support both human and pet wellbeing:

✔ wash hands after handling pets and before eating
✔ wear gloves when disposing of stools or cleaning litter trays
✔ avoid kissing pets
✔ support healthy digestion by feeding a species-appropriate raw diet and avoiding grains and starches

If you notice digestive issues, please chat with us — gut health plays a vital role in overall wellbeing.
